One Day. One Voice. One Purpose

Every year, the Church in Zambia unites as one body to reflect God's heart for the orphan.
OUR HISTORY

The Story of Orphan Sunday® in Zambia

Orphan Sunday began right here in Zambia in 2002, when a pastor called his congregation to care for the orphans in their church. The people gave what little they had—money, food, even their own shoes—to show God’s love to children in need. That simple act of obedience sparked a movement that spread across nations. Today, churches in over 120 countries join together each year to celebrate Orphan Sunday®, but the heart of the movement still beats in Zambia.

"Even when we have little, when we give with a heart full of love for Christ, God is honored and His name is lifted high."

OUR HEART

United in Purpose

Our Mission: To unite the Church in Zambia to care for orphans and vulnerable children through the love of Christ.

Our Vision: To see every orphan in Zambia embraced by the family of God and restored as sons and daughters of God through the gospel of Christ.

May every Church in Zambia unite as one body to reflect God's heart for the orphan.

Why the Church?

WHY THE CHURCH?

God's Call to His Church

The Holy Bible reveals both God’s heart, compassion, and His promises of protection, provision, and care for the orphan—and how we as Christ followers are to serve God in fulfilling His promises to the orphan.

The Bible is clear: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this—to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” — James 1:27

When we, as the body of Christ, open our hearts and homes to orphans, we show the world who our eternal Father is.

We are not simply helping children—we are living out the Gospel, making the love of Jesus visible in every community.

Our Partners in the Movement

Orphan Sunday® Zambia is a collaboration of churches, ministries, and denominational bodies united in our calling to care for orphans and to see every orphan raised in a loving family and community. Our strength is not in one organization but in the Zambian Church standing as one family before God. Together, we are proclaiming that the orphan is not forgotten, valued, and that every child belongs in God’s family.

OUR BELIEF

What We Believe About The Orphan

We believe every orphan and vulnerable child is created in the image of God and carries immeasurable worth in His eyes.

The orphan is not cursed, forgotten, or less than—they are deeply loved by the Father and invited into His family through Christ.

The Bible tells us that God Himself is “a Father to the fatherless” (Psalm 68:5). As His Church, we are called to reflect that same love by embracing the orphan as our own—offering not only care, but belonging.

When the Church opens its heart and home to the fatherless, we display the Gospel of adoption: that through Jesus Christ, we too have been brought from abandonment to belonging, from lost to found, from orphans to sons and daughters of God.
